Why Neon Hitch's "Bad Dog" is quite possibly the best song ever

While Neon Hitch is currently promoting her latest single "F*ck U Betta," I'd like to take a step back in time and talk about an underrated single of hers, "Bad Dog" (listen here). This digital single never got a video and never got radio airplay. That is extremely sad considering that this single is just as good (if not better) than her current one. If this song doesn't make the final cut for her debut album Beg, Borrow, and Steal, I will cry.

"I just found out that I'm with a bad dog," Neon sings over the simple beat structure of the song's first verse. The song's lyrics are extremely flirty and seductive; they liken Neon's boyfriend to a bad dog that needs to be -- err, as Janet Jackson puts it best -- disciplined. The slow beats follow Neon into the pre-chorus where the song suddenly gets an unexpected facelift.

"Oh oh oh ooh oh, I'm breathing on your skin," Neon coyly purrs as the diluted beats are joined by more stuttering synths and background vocals. The song is already getting even better, but in the chorus it really explodes.

"You're just an animal that I caught," she screams in the chorus. The simple beat structure turns complex as more elements of hip-hop and techno beats are added to the track. The chorus creates an extremely catchy and singable hook that really won't be leaving your head ever.

Until now, "Bad Dog" has been a playful track, but in the song's bridge this naughty story gets truly macabre. "Revenge is sweet like licorice, I poisoned you with just a kiss. Your hands are tied, I got my wish. Now say a prayer 'cuz this is it," she sings in a wickedly sexy voice. These few seconds take this amazing track into a whole new level. It goes from "S&M" to "Fire Bomb" in 3.5 (This is for Rihanna fans to understand).

The dark bridge is reminiscent of another one of Neon's singles, "Poisoned With Love." But that's going to be the subject of another post soon. Stay tuned for it!

I really can't even explain how weird it is for me to be listening to this song months after it was released. It's just that good.

What do you think of Neon Hitch's "Bad Dog"? Comments greatly appreciated!
