The new Dolly Rockers single is quite possibly already the best song of the year

It's been a hot second since I last wrote an installment of Getting Dolly Rockered. I guess now I won't have to, because A NEW DOLLY ROCKERS SONG JUST LEAKED!

No, it's not from an old recording session with their UK label, it's it's produced RedOne! The man who produced the newly-released "Starships" by Nicki Minaj also produced this song. And let me tell you one thing...

Starships x 100 < Get You Alone

"Get You Alone" is an electro-pop ditty with bubbly beats and thundering synths. The lyrics are step up for the girls who, although already great lyricists, learned a thing or two in the area of theme-setting. The way the girls harmonize in certain areas to emphasize a certain word is glorious and is a nod toward their old material.

Although this song isn't instrumentally similar to any of their old material one bit, it still shows the same Dollytude these girls are known for. The chorus is also reminiscent of "Boys Will Be Boys" and "Automatic Girl" in the fact that the euphoric energy present in all three of these choruses are not present in any other song on the radio right now, or in the last few years for that matter. The girls sing their hearts out in a top-40 radio-friendly song, which is highly unusual nowadays thanks to the double-sided phenomena of auto-tune. Vocals: perfect.

The Dollies have never been ones to shyly wait in the corner to be picked up, and they're not about to change that now. The same care-free attitude towards hooking up found in "Je Suis Une Dolly" is refined into an ambitious, feministic exclamation as the girls confess they can't stop thinking about getting that certain somebody alone. These girls are cute as kitties but ferocious as lionesses!

Although it is unfortunate when a song leaks prematurely, especially a demo like this one, it's amazing how great just a demo from these girls sounds. The mastered version will probably leave me in tears, surely. Remember when the demo of Gaga's "Bad Romance" leaked and it was pretty good but then the real version came out and it just blew everyone away? That's what I'm expecting with this puppy, and I'm sure the girls won't disappoint!

I hope this leak gets the ball rolling on releasing material from The Dollies. Even if they're not done recording their album, they can at least release some singles periodically ala Neon Hitch (who is still releasing singles, five so far, no albums yet) or Paramore (a "singles" club is a bit annoying, but it's better than nothing). I don't know whether or not this song will be on the album, but I can tell you if it is it would be amazing. I don't know if this song will be a single, but I can tell you if it becomes one then the Dollies can say "hello" to their first No. 1 single in the states.

These songs are pretty much all I want to listen to this week

"Part of Me" - Katy Perry

When this song originally leaked back in 2010, shortly after the "California Gurls" and "E.T." leaks, I immediately fell in love with it. The song sounded like a dark version of Teenage Dream's lead single "California Gurls," but it really shows off Katy Perry's vocals amazingly. "This is the part of me that you're never gonna ever take away from me," she exclaims in the explosive chorus. The song was re-written in order to fit better with Miss Perry's current emotional struggle: her divorce with comedian Russel Brand. "You can keep your diamond ring," she bitterly sings to Brand. If this song is an omen to her future offerings, we might have ourselves a new, more radio-friendly Adele.

"Starships" - Nicki Minaj

Ok here's the deal with this song: it's actually three different songs. There's the beginning which is very "let's go to the beach" and kind of makes one think of Selena Gomez & The Scene's "Summer's Not Hot" but for adults. Then there's that little Jamaican-esque part that's really like a cheap rip-off of Rihanna's "Man Down" except not about killing people. And those are both rubbish. There's a part in between all that junk that's actually good. Very good actually. The RedOne produced track boasts a monstrous dance breakdown that is just so good you must hear it for yourself. Imagine Lady GaGa's "Bloody Mary" mixed with Kat DeLuna's "Everybody Dance." Yeah.

Jessie & the ToyBoys get killer on "This Is How Rumors Start" mini-series

Meet Jessie & the ToyBoys.

The band is fronted by Jessie Malakouti, the incredible pop chanteuse behind "Trash Me" (which Heidi Montag later flawlessly covered) and "Outsider." The ToyBoys? They're mannequins that come to life live!

After the release of the band's first two singles "Push It" and "Let's Get Naughty" they revealed that their debut album This Is How Rumors Start would be released this year. But while we wait, they've taken the effort to give us a little something to chew on.

Above is episode one of the This Is How Rumors Start mini-series. I don't want to give too much away, but there is blood and conspiracy among other elements.

It's all a bit Natalia Kills' Love Kills except it's a lot brighter and a little more on the silly side. The way Jessie works her songs into the series is less than innovative, but it's still extremely fun to watch and gives us something to help out the wait. 

Jessie just wants to cut her demo, but her producer is giving her a hard time. He wants to get all up on her, if you know what I'm saying. She refuses once and again. She's about to leave and take her music with her, but the bastard won't let her. He even threatens her. Oh hell no. So Jessie does something about it. Exactly what? See for yourself...

Hot Songs of the Week: 2/6

"Give Me All Your Luvin'" - Madonna f. M.I.A. & Nicki Minaj

As if there is even a reason to explain why this is among the hot songs of the week, here goes: the song just came out, it's hot, it was performed amazingly at the Super Bowl, and it will slay all. The massive production on this track is just over the top amazing thanks to Madonna and Martin Solveig's production skills. The song is classy, sassy, and best of all FUN! This song goes very well when accompanied in a playlist with "Vogue," "Music," and "Like A Prayer." For fun, you can also copy every single thing she did in her Super Bowl show and put on a show for the neighbors (the gladiator men can be substituted for your dogs).

"Bad Girls" - M.I.A.

In the wake of the release of Madonna's "Give Me All Your Luvin'" video, M.I.A. released the video for her Danja-produced track "Bad Girls." The song is taken from her mixtape Vicki Leekx, which by the way is amazing. "Chain hits my chest when I"m bangin' on the dashboard," the Middle-Eastern princess sings. That quote surpasses extreme levels of amazingness every time I hear it. The crazy Arabian-sounding beats and urban-influenced synthesizers make for a very cultural experience, as does the video. Lessons to be learned: kids, don't play on a moving car that just so happens to be about to tip over.

"Respect" - Melanie Amaro

The winner of US "X Factor" finally releases some material of her own. The cover of Aretha Franklin's hit single "Respect" gets a mayjah facelift with Melanie Amaro. This song is a ferocious, over-the-top dance anthem like no other! The glitchy "R-E, R-E, R-E, R-E," sequence is pure magic, so glad somebody thought to do that. Her vocals sound better than they ever did on "X Factor" and I could not be more proud of this girl. Her Pepsi commercial premiered last night at the Super Bowl where she sang this song and sent Elton John into a dungeon with Flava Flave. Your faves could never.

"A** Back Home" - Gym Class Heroes f. Neon Hitch

This song is mostly here because of Neon Hitch. Yes, the GCH do a great job on this track, the verses are creative and fun. But Neon sings a truly heartfelt chorus: "I don't know where you're going, just get your a** back home." Her voice cracks beautifully during the song, giving the song an extra layer of depth that the Gym Class Heroes simply can't create on their own. The interesting thing about this song is that without Neon it might totally suck, it might be an outtake. It would never be a single. But then you through Miss Hitch's vocals in there and BOOM! You got yourself a hit single. Which brings me to the next song...

"Love You Betta" - Neon Hitch

This track has been floating around online for a while, but this week it finally gets its formal release. The Benny Blanco-produced track is perfect for Neon, it shows off her vocals and diversity. The song has an amazing "Hold It Against Me"-esque pulsating beat throughout that makes me feel all fuzzy inside! "She's prettier than I'll ever be. Got yourself a beauty queen, but there's one thing I gotta say. She can love you good, but I can f*** you betta," she sings before breaking into a glitchy, amazing series of repeating "etta etta etta," no doubt a shoutout to Etta James, no? No, I'm kidding.

Madonna premiers video for Minaj and M.I.A.-aided single "Give Me All Your Luvin'"

This has got to be Madonna's most fun music video.

The music video opens with Madonna coming out (she pushed the door down!) of a perfect, cookie-cutter house out into a perfect, cookie-cutter neighborhood while pushing a black baby stroller. Then, oh no! The local varsity football team is on the loose at Wysteria Lane! But fear not, Miss Madge is friends with them (who knew?). They take out a big orange road block sign for her! And then, oh hey! it's Nicki Minaj or Roman Zolanski and M.I.Am.A.Middle-Eastern.Rapper.And.I'm.Proud.Of.It.A!

The fearsome threesome walk for a little bit until it, like, starts raining gold. Like literally, liquid gold rains over Madonna. Must be the tears of the angels at looking how great she look at 52! Quickly, the football team runs towards her with open umbrellas to shield her from the rain of gold (it makes your hair frizz) and even put their letterman jackets on top of puddles of gold as Madonna walks by very "oh yeah, thanks boys, whatever."

Madonna is sporting a gorgeous blonde 'do in this video, but what's more is when she takes of her khaki-colored trench-coat she's wearing an amazing, legless black outfit. To. Die. For.

Then the football players effortlessly pull a taxi in half so Madonna can walk by uninterrupted by its presence! These scenes in the utopian neighborhood are intercut with scenes of Madge in a beautiful black getup, wearing a giant gold cross and strutting her stuff like she's a 20-year-old.

Then she does something that your faves could never: she has the football players lift her up and she walks sideways on a wall. Not only does she do this, but she looks flawless while doing so. It's just too much.

After that the song's two featured artists appear with some anime mask-wearing cheerleaders. Miss Minaj is wearing a stunning red, white, and red dress and playing with her pom-poms (not like that) while M.I.A. wears a cool-looking letterman jacket and cheers along effortlessly. The girls join Madonna as she walks down a red carpet and later veers off into a sketchy-looking alley. This can't be good.

And it's not! Some random music hater pulls up in his car and starts shooting Madonna! But does she notice? No, not at all. She continues and strolls, sings the lyrics to her song while numerous football players throw themselves and take many bullets for her. They were benchwarmers anyway. Then, Madge finds a giant pile of football players and decides to climb them, and lo and behold there's a door to a super secret club that she somehow manages to get into (there's not even a bouncer?).

But before that, something amazing happens. Madonna pretends to breastfeed a baby doll. It's amazing. You must watch it.

But back to the club, she goes through the door and emerges on the other side wearing... an outfit that looks like the one she wore in the "Vogue" music video and she also has a curly, blonde wig and so do Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. and they all kinda do a little dance and you totally die during it so watch it  three times to get the full effect!!

Nicki raps her verse and looks all sorts of amazing, then Madonna sings her little bridge part while doing a robot-esque dance, and while M.I.A. does her thing Madonna totally steals the show by winking, throwing kisses, and looking seductively into the camera. What can you do, it's Madonna. Do you see how far she bends right there? Your faves...never.

After than Madonna effortlessly falls as countless muscly, footballer arms try effortlessly to catch her till she reaches the bottom, and two very efficient quarterbacks run through a wall to catch the queen.

Then all three of the girls get on a stage and dance and rave outdoors with all the football players and cheerleaders a whole high school district could ever dream to have.

And it's all flawless.

Madonna releases carelessly fun "Give Me All Your Luvin'" featuring Nicki Minaj & M.I.A.

It's finally here. Madonna's first single from "M.D.N.A." was released to iTunes exclusively at 6 AM, and like a lot of people, here I was at 6, joyfully bouncing in my seat as the download progress bar filled up with that dark gray color: I was seconds away from getting all of Madonna's luvin'!

It must be stated that the official single mix doesn't differ much from the demo that leaked last year. The production is obviously fine-tuned and Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.'s vocals are added in, but other than that the structure of the song doesn't change. This is no "E.T." situation.

With that being said, "Give Me All Your Luvin'" is not Madonna's best single. It is, however, her most blatantly fun. While in past 2000-era singles like "Hung Up" or "4 Minutes" (if you have not heard these songs, look them up for your own well-being) Madonna sang in a sexy, concealed manner, in this track Madonna returns to what first made her famous. The flirty, honest, and downright fun vocal performance she lays on the track she and Martin Solveig produced is reminiscent of her older material. And when I say old, I mean old as in "Holiday" and "Like A Virgin."

"I hear you comin' and I don't wanna know your name," Madonna sings in a soft, friendly voice during the track's first verse. Her flirtatious vocals are intercut with the soon-to-be-legendary "L-U-V Madonna" and "Y-O-U You wanna?" cheerleader-esque chants delivered by none other than Miss Minaj and M.I.A.

"Don't play those stupid games 'cause I'ma different kind of girl. Every record sounds the same you've gotta step into my world," Madonna sings in the chorus or pre-chorus (technically it could be both) when the song's care-free production is at its best. There are soft-hitting synthesizer beats, winding synths, and those delicious bass strums in a frenzy behind Madonna's lush vocals.

The chorus is a clear kick-back to 80's: "Give me all your luvin', give me your love. Give me all your love today," Madonna sings backed by some retro-sounding production. It's almost euphoric.

After the second chorus one starts to wonder: "Are Nicki and M.I.A. just here to be cheerleaders?"

But then, in place of the vocal breakdown in the song's demo is a brand-new verse by the Harajuku Barbie herself. "I'm Roman. I'm a barbarian, I'm Conan. You was sleepin' on me, you was dozin'. Now move! I'm gonin'" she effortlessly raps. Although in my opinion her verse is too short, this performance by Minaj should be ranked among her best collabs. Such a great rapperette!

After that comes Madonna's bridge (same as in the demo) and then M.I.A. comes in. Her laid-back rapping style is such a contrast to Nicki's overzealous rapping style. "It's supersonic, bionic, uranium hit" she says during her verse. It's far from "Paper Planes" and closer to "XXXO."

Then Madonna comes back for another ecstatic, cheerleader-aided chorus and goes out with a bang!

I love this song because it's so unapologetically fun unlike most of the stuff on the radio. This song will definitely be bringing Madonna back to the top of the charts again. And throwing in Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. didn't hurt either.

#requestGLADYOUCAME: The American Takeover of The Wanted

Meet The Wanted.

They're a British-Irish boyband that has taken over the UK with their catchy lyrics, amazing voices, and infectious club beats. Their first single "All Time Low" went to No. 1 on the UK charts. "Glad You Came," the lead single from the band's sophomore album Battleground, also went to No. 1, but had an ever greater impact, charting in nine countries.

Better make that 10, as "Glad You Came" entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 85 after a performance on the Ellen Degeneres show as well as kicking off their first US tour. 

"Glad You Came" starts off with Max George singing the song's chorus over nothing but the sound of a delicate piano. Soon though, it becomes obvious that this song isn't a ballad: the song's producer Steve Mac kicks the song into full gear as he throws in some Ibiza-ready Caribbean-influenced synthesizers that become the song's distinctive feature. 

"You cast a spell on me, spell on me.You hit me like the sky fell on me, fell on me," Nathan Sykes sings in the song's first chorus. The song structure for this song is amazingly simple but incredibly efficient; the repetition in the song's lyrics is what makes it catchy. "And I decided you looked well on me, well on me. So let's go somewhere no one else can see, you and me," Siva Kaneswaran continues in the second verse.

The song really flourishes during it's pre-chorus, though, when a stronger backbeat joins the instrumentation and the great pop songs turns into an amazing club track. "Turn the lights out now, now i'll take you by the hand. Hand you another drink, drink it if you can," Tom Parker sings in the pre-chorus, "Can you spend a little time? Time is slippin' away, away from us so stay, stay with me I can make, make you glad you came."

Suddenly the chorus that was previously sung by Max George over a piano is reprise by the whole band over the clubby synths and strong beats creating a euphoric ambiance comparable to that of Enrique Iglesias' "I Like It." After the chorus comes a great sing-along series of "oh oh oh ohhs" to the tune of the chorus that creates an anthemic feel to the already feel-good track.

And simple enough, Max closes up the track the same way he opened it: over a piano.

While Jay McGuiness (in between Nathan and Tom) doesn't have a solo in this song, watch out for him,his voice plays a big role in a lot of songs by The Wanted.

As the boys tour the US (they're playing New York City tonight) they are promoting the American release of this amazing single. Help them out by trending the hashtag #requestGLADYOUCAME on Twitter and by requesting this song on your local radio station. It's already No. 85 on Billboard Hot 100 and No. 66 on iTunes, help them climb to No. 1, they're worth it.

NERVO teams up with Avicii to bring some love back to the dancefloor

Above are NERVO, an Australian pop group consisting of two twins who's surname is Nervo. Creative. These girls have received tons of promo due to touring with Britney Spears on her Femme Fatale Tour as well co-penning some seriously impressive songs (Ke$ha's "F*ck Him (He's a DJ)" and David Guetta's "When Love Takes Over") as well as putting on some seriously amazing shows.

Recently these girls have collaborated with Swedish DJ Avicii on a new track called "You're Gonna Love Again." The song, to speak eloquently, is pure fiya!


The song's production is slow at first, only a steady beat and a few synths here and there. Then when the song's chorus kicks in the production starts to escalate and escalate until it reaches its climactic peak and all hell breaks loose. Avivii's infamous club production is at its best in this breakdown. The icy-cool synthesizers coil round the twins' vocals while they sing "People come home you don't have to be scared, 'cause you're gonna love, you're gonna love again."

This song is extremely club-oriented, but with the right promotion it could definitely be a huge hit on the radio for these girls.

Getting Dolly Rockered: "Gold Digger"

The Dolly Rockers first gained popularity with their song "Je Suis Une Dolly," but it was "Gold Digger" that really showed the world what the Dolly Rockers were made of.

"Gold Digger" was the first and only single the Dolly Rockers released via Parlophone, "Je Suis Une Dolly" serving as a B-side. The care-free ditty talks about one those girls who is, well simply put, a gold digger. "She's out for a prey if you're straight or gay she won't end up alone" they sing in the pre-chorus.

The song samples heavily from "Stool Pigeon" by Kid Creole and the Coconuts, but makes it a million times better! "There's a brand new girl that's goin' round, turnin' the boys upside-down. Gold digger!" The chorus sees the girls in n extremely British-sounding pop situation where they cooly sing the hilarious lyrics of the track.

"Fit blokes don't count for much unless they've got money to pay for the glitz and the refurb' tits" they sing in the song's second verse. The Dolly Rockers' ability to turn any situation into a hilarious pop song is unheard of in the pop world. These girls are like Garfunkel & Oates on an acid trip!

Sadly, and unfairly, "Gold Digger" peaked at 46 on the charts.That doesn't count for much though: this song is good enough to be No. 1 and in my head it always will be the song that changed British pop music for the good.

Alexandra Burke releases an "Elephant"-sized hit

For those of you who sadly don't know who Alexandra Burke is: she was on the British X Factor, she won, she has a great voice, the rest is irrelevant. This is the relevant part, she just released her latest single "Elephant" and it is massive.



Alexandra's latest single is far from her previous ones. While on her hits "Broken Heels" and "Start Without You" she strutted around on R&B-based pop beats, on "Elephant" she delves into the dark electronica spectrum. "Oh, there's an elephant standing in the room," she says in metallic, auto-tuned vocals during the song's anti-chorus. Nothing more than a simple beat accompanies her delicate vocals.

Then when all your goosies subside (because that anti-chorus is surrisly chilling) the bridge kicks in: "You wanna talk, you wanna talk about it?" she repeats over and over. The song's explosive bridge is catchier than it's anti-chorus, it's truly the anti-chorus that is the highlight of the song

Personally I can't wait until this song hits the airwaves, it's rumored to be released here in the US (!!!). Quite frankly we need a little stirring and "Elephant" could do just that.

Getting Dolly Rockered: "Je Suis Une Dolly"

Meet the Dolly Rockers.

One Day I'll do a formal introduction piece on them, but today let's just get down to the music!

The Dolly Rockers are currently working with RedOne after parting ways with their British record label. And it's a painful wait. The good thing is that these girls left us quite a few tracks from their old recording sessions to keep us happy until their material with RedOne is released. In Getting Dolly Rockered I will be exploring every single one of these songs, in a desperate attempt to not explode from impatience while waiting for their new single. Enjoy!



Above is "Je Suis Une Dolly," arguably the band's most popular song. The song is a careless little ditty that's just so damn feel-good you can't help but dance around to it like an idiot. The track shows the Dolly Rockers getting a "little wild on holiday" and doing all sorts of fun shenanigans. The track's title means "I Am A Dolly" is English.

One of the song's best assets are the girls' adorable British accents. They're literally almost indecipherable to the American public during the bridge! "Thinksjkhfkdsfhkshfdkgkfhgf for a beer, do you fancy it?" is about as much as I get out of it. It's amazing.

The girls visit a bar full of married men and drink a little too much, then later wake up to realize they've slept with with a "garden gnome with platform shoes and a shiny dome" whose "hands look French, but they're Roman."

The song is extremely fun to sing to, and the video is equally fun!

The girls strut around London town in there extremely cute Dolly Rocker attire and "flash their pants" (pants means underwear in England) while they can-can. These girls all look like a hoot and half, who wouldn't want to hang out with them?

If One Direction are one thing, that thing would have to be British

Above is the newly-released music video for Brit-pop band One Direction's latest single "One Thing."
The band's choice to release "One Thing" as a single is safe and predictable. It's an incredibly catchy tune (maybe even more so than "What Makes You Beautiful") and is right up the alley of what these boys do best: woo girls.
However predictable this release is, it's amaZAYNg!
I' usually not one to freak out over songs like this, but this song is just everything and more. Something about their music always just makes me smile. Their lyrics are great, their production is superb, and the video is better than expected.
1D show their fans how proudly British they are and give them a tour of London in none other than a red double-decker bus. How British is that? Then they show tons of screaming girls ala Jonas Brothers music video. It's all extremely fun and innocent, as are all of these boys' videos.
Clearly I was born in the wrong country.
Something to ponder: How long until these boys' innocent music videos begin to get more and more risque?

Pop Is A Bloodsport Introduces: Gin Wigmore

Meet Gin Wigmore. I won't give you the how-do-you-not-know-her schpiel I did yesterday with The Charlies, because I just discovered Gin Wigmore about thirty minutes ago thanks to my friend Hannah ( imnosoldier.tumblr.com ) who opened me up to her magnificent music.
Wigmore is from New Zealand and was formerly a soap opera star...but no one really cares about the background, do we? We wanna hear the music! Here it goes.
It's like Amy Winehouse's instrumentation with Duffy's voice and Hailey Reinhart's growls.
"Too Late For Lovers" is from her first album "Holy Smoke." The track starts out with some soft guitar riffs and sounds kind of like a soft ballad until Wigmore's vocals invade the track. Her Duffy-esque singing sings "Oh it's too late for lovers. Save me, why won't you save me?" in the song's amazing chorus. Her voice gets a certain rasp at certain points during the song that add so much depth to the track it's amazing.


"Hey Ho" is also from "Holy Smoke." No she's say saying "hey" to a whore, it's more along the lines of "hey, ho, nobody knows you're not coming home" as she sings in the chorus. The track deals with the desire Gin has to cause some serious harm to her ex-boyfriend. Don't mess with this girl! "Believe me baby, you won't come back again" she says oh so nonchalantly. The song's music video is great too, forget Lady GaGa.
